Adrien Bowling Gates

Reidsville – Staff Sergeant Adrien Bowling Gates, 74, of 816 South Main Street, passed away on Monday, May 31st, 2011 at Annie Penn Hospital. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Dr. Jerry Carter officiating. The burial will follow at Evergreen Memory Gardens with military graveside rites. Mr. Gates was born in Guilford County and was the son of the late, Charles B. and Ruth Wall Gates. He was retired from the US Marine Corps and served three tours of service in Vietnam. He was very proud of his military service and lived as a survivor. He was formerly employed with American Tobacco Company and Van Wilson Enterprises. His strong personality proved his unconditional love for his family. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Charles, T.O. and Bennett Gates; and his sister, Betty Lou Jones. Mr. Gates is survived by his children, Selena Faye Gates of Greensboro, Adrien Clark Gates and significant other, Christi Alderfer of Reidsville, and Jacqueline Suzanne Gates Collins and significant other, Jeff Wilson of Mooresville; the mother of his children, Peggy Meeks Lewis; grandchildren, Ashley Gates Ritchie and husband, Cyle, Miranda Wilson and significant other, Eugene, Jennifer Wilson Little and husband, Jonathan, Zackery Clark Gates and wife, Parker, Hilary Wilson and significant other, Doug, Kayleigh Gates Sparks and husband, Andy, Christopher Harper, and Shayna Gates; great grandchildren, Alexis, Christina, Tyler, Andy, Alaina, Bennett, Charley, Adrienna and Willa; brother, Harry D. Gates and wife, Janice of Greensboro; sister, Peggy King of South Port, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends, Wednesday, June 1 at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 7:00 – 9:00 PM and other times at his home.
