Reidsville– Albert Drew Adkins, 69, of 3700 Iron Works Road, passed away, Thursday, August 6, 2009 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M., Sunday, August 9, 2009 at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Tom Brown officiating. Interment will follow Evergreen Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Otis, Webster, Carl and Mike Ford, Dwayne Smith and Randy Ashley; honorary pallbearers will be Tommy C. Ashley, Terry Ashley, Bob Tillman and Gary Schoolfield. Mr. Adkins was born in Rockingham County to Larry Lucille Wells Adkins and the late Bernard H. Adkins and was a retiree of The American Tobacco Company with 26 years service. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed flying model airplanes and attended Sharon Baptist Church. Survivors include his daughter Roxanne Smith and husband, Todd; grandchildren, Brandon Drew Smith and Gregory Thomas Smith; mother, Lucy Wells Adkins; sister, Marie Adkins Ashley; nieces, Darlene Ashley, Bonnie A. Hale and husband, Wayne; nephews, Tommy C. Ashley and wife, Melba, Terry L. Ashley and wife, Tina; five great nieces and nephews; one great great niece, his pride and joy, Maggie Ashley. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, P.O. Box 281, Wentworth, NC, 27375. The family would like to thank Dr. Hemal and staff of NC Baptist Hospital and Dr, Neijstrom and staff of Annie Penn Hospital and Goldie A Anderson, caregiver and Hospice of Rockingham County for their love and compassion during Mr. Adkins illness.
