Alice Joyce Hanks

Alice Joyce Hanks, 91, of Gibsonville went home to be with The Lord after her courageous battle with cancer for over 20 years on Friday, March 29, 2024, at Linden Place Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Graveside funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at Glencoe United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pastor Matthew Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Alice was a native of Guilford County and the daughter of the late Raleigh and Minnie Barham Hanks. She served faithfully as a nurse for over 30 years while she lived in Orlando, FL. She adored her faithful animal companions all of her life! Along with her parents, Alice was also preceded in death by her brothers James Hanks, RJ Hanks, and Billy Hanks; sister Betty Rudd;  brother-in-laws Jimmy Crews, Larry Reed, and Don Nelson.

Alice is survived by her sons David Wayne Pettigrew and wife Cheryl, Robert Pettigrew and wife Tina, and Dwayne Steed; grandchildren Christy Martin and husband Eric, Alyssa Bennett and husband Daniel, Rebecca Zidman and husband Zachary, Justin Knight and wife Allison, Rocky Pettigrew and wife Jessica, Alice Pettigrew, and Nicole Davis; 10 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; beloved sisters Carolyn Reed, Polly Crews, and Frances Nelson; and a large extended family.
