Alice Jones Ross

Reidsville - Alice Jones Ross, 71, of 230 Huffines Mill Road, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at Annie Penn Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 11:00 AM at New Lebanon Christian Church with Dr. Mark Harris officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The pallbearers will be her nephews, Robert Jones, Randall Jones, Ryan Jones, Wayne Jones, Clyde Jones, Jr., Randy Hanks, Roger Hanks, Rodney Williams, Keith Ross, Kevin Ross, Todd Ross, Terry Ross, Tony Ross, Jerry Archer, Johnny Archer, Kenneth Myers and Chip Ross. Mrs. Ross was born in Rockingham County to the late Walter and Jessie Mansfield Jones. She was formerly employed with Sears for fifteen years and then drove a school bus for fifteen years. Throughout her working years, she and her husband worked together farming. She was a longtime and faithful member of New Lebanon Christian Church where she led the choir and was a member of the Ann Green Sunday School Class. She was also a member of Circle #1, the Home Demonstration Club and the UDC. She was a genealogy enthusiast having co-authored two books. She enjoyed her historical research including families of the community and the long history of New Lebanon Church. She was preceded in death by her brother, Roy Jones; her sister, Helen Hanks and her nephew, Ricky Hanks. She is survived by her husband, William "Billy" Ross of the home; children, Ronnie Ross and wife, Elizabeth of Wilmington, NC, Travis Ross and wife, Norma of Julian, NC and Jama Jones and husband, Todd of Reidsville; grandchildren, Kasie Jones, Courtney Ross and Ross Jones; brothers, Winfred Jones of Reidsville, Calvin Jones and wife, Virginia of Ferrum, VA and Clyde Jones and wife, Mary Frances of Greensboro; sister, Iva Williams and husband, Ted of Reidsville and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 27, 2009 from 6-8 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home. Other times the family will be at the residence.
