Whitlow, Alice
Reidsville- Alice “Dolly” Stokes Whitlow, 74 of Reidsville, NC went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 3, 2014 after her valiant fight with a third bout of breast cancer, a quitter she was not- she fought to her last breath not because she was afraid of dying but because she did not want to leave her children.
A Funeral service will be held at 11:15 am on Saturday, January 11th at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Gary Chambers officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. After the funeral the family asks that friends and family join them at the Fairview Baptist Church Fellowship Hall to celebrate Dolly’s life. Light refreshments will be provided.
Our mother was one of the few genuinely good people we’ve ever known. She lived a life of integrity, grace and utter selflessness. She nursed us when we were ill, she rejoiced in our accomplishments, comforted us in our times of defeats and despair and firmly and relentlessly guided us on the right paths in life. Throughout her life she maintained a simple and sweet demeanor that won the trust and hearts of her family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and strangers alike. Her laughter was infectious and she glorified in giving others joy. Her passions in life were her family and friends, her love of digging in the dirt and the ability to bring forth beautiful and abundant flowers from the earth and her unbridled adventures in traveling the United States. She was a lover of life pure and simple.
Dolly was born in Danville,VA to the late John Franklin Stokes and Florine Erskine Henderson Stokes. She retired from Lucent Technologies with 27 years of service, 11 ½ of those years were spent in Oklahoma with many other co-workers due to a local plant closing. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Ann Henderson Stokes Robertson.
She is survived by her son, Clifton Daniel Whitlow and wife, Wanda of Reidsville; daughter, Annette Whitlow Hunt and husband, Curt of Peachtree City, Georgia; grandchildren, Melanie R.
