Amos Burton

Reidsville – Amos Turner Burton, 87, died, Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Avante at Reidsville. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Blair and Rev. John Burton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors performed by the Rockingham County Honor Guard. Mr. Burton was the son of the late Allen Clay and Minnie Lee Jarrell Burton. He was a US Navy veteran serving in WWII and a member of the American Legion Post # 79. He was very dedicated to the veterans and volunteered and visited them regularly. In his early years, Amos was a farmer and later was an employee of Wackenhut Security. He was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church and the Methodist Men. He was also a member of the Exchange Club and enjoyed visiting the nursing homes. Amos took special care of his parents before their passing and took pride in being the family historian. He loved his church, his family and most of all his grandkids, and they loved him. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his son, James Lewis Burton. Survivors include his wife Mary Rich Burton; son, George Burton; daughters, Patricia Ann Burton Butler and husband, Billy and Amy Burton Huber and husband, Dan; grandchildren, Joshua Huber, Cory Butler and wife, Krystal, Allen Butler and wife, Jodi, Melissa Burton-Moore and husband, David; great grandchildren, Chloe, Sophia, Oakland and Joslyn Huber and Olivia, Allyssa and Elijah Butler; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family wishes to thank the staff of Avante at Reidsville, Joe for the good close shaves and Hospice of Rockingham County for the care given to Mr. Burton. The family will see friends on Monday evening December 10, 2012 at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 6-8 PM.
