Archie Lewis Boyd, 90, of 1282 Nunnally Rd South, Pelham, NC went home to be with the Lord on October 12, 2013 at Danville Regional Medical Center. Born October 18, 1922 in Meadows of Dan, Va. he was the son of the late Charlie H. Boyd and Eliza R. Boyd of Pelham. Mr. Boyd was married to the late Thelma Gerringer Boyd for 54 years. Mr Boyd was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister: Oddie G. Boyd of Newport News, Va, Adrian A. Boyd of Pelham, NC and Hazel Boyd Mitchell of Pelham, NC Mr Boyd is survived by three children: Lewis Wayne Boyd (wife Leota) of Newport News, Va, Philip Donald Boyd (wife Donna) of Danville, Va and Cindy Boyd Strader (husband Larry) of Ruffin, NC. Additional survivors include 7 grandchildren: Jennifer Boyd Brodie, Patrick Boyd, Kristin Strader Simmons, Ryan Strader, Sara Beth Strader Prontaut, Adam Boyd, Stephen Boyd and 10 great grandchildren. Mr Boyd was a World War II veteran serving in the US Army. Active duty included tours in Germany and France from 1943 thru 1945. Mr Boyd faithfully served his country until WW II ended. Mr Boyd's private sector work career included: Newport News Shipyard where he was a sheet metal specialist working on the USS "United States" which was commissioned in 1952. Export Leaf Tobacco Company working 25 years in a supervisory position covering areas in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Kentucky. Mr. Boyd was also an experienced carpenter, assisting in the construction of many homes throughout Reidsville, Eden, and other surrounding areas. Mr. Boyd was a member of Pelham United Methodist Church, where he and his late wife Thelma attended. In the past several years Mr. Boyd faithfully attended Covington Memorial Wesleyan Church in Reidsville where he enjoyed his many discussions and fellowship with the Covington Wesleyan Men. Archie Boyd was a beloved father and husband who will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The family would like to give special thanks to his care-givers for their support over the past months. In addition, the family wishes to thank the Covington Wesleyan Men whom Mr Boyd loved and enjoyed spending time with very much. Mr Boyd has now been reunited with his beloved wife Thelma in Heaven and at this time is rejoicing in the everlasting arms of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. A Funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 16 at 2:00 pm at Covington Memorial Wesleyan Church, Reidsville, NC. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 to 2:00 pm Wednesday prior to the service. Other times the family will be at the family residence, 1282 Nunnally Rd S. Pelham, NC. Interment will be following the service at Pelham United Methodist Cemetery, Pelham, NC.
