Babette Sonja Trogstad Daly was born on January 12th, 1928 in Floral Park. NY. She was the daughter of two immigrants from Sandefjord, Norway. She lived at various points in the New York City area in her youth including Rocky Point (north side) on Long Island.
As a teenager she worked in New York City at a department store to help her family survive the war years. She attended Sewanhaka High School in Floral Park (Queens), Nassau County, New York and graduated in 1946.
Later that year, she moved with her family to the Washington, D.C. area.
During the late 1940’s, she worked as a clerk for the U.S. Department of State. She took great pride in her work at the State Department during George Marshall’s and Dean Acheson’s stewardship.
In October, 1950, she resigned from the State Department and married Leslie A. Daly, Jr. of Bethesda, Maryland at a Washington, D.C. church.
For a brief period she and her husband lived outside of Philadelphia in the small town of Telford, Bucks County, PA. In 1952, they moved to Takoma Park, MD and in 1955, to Bethesda, Maryland. In August of 1968, the family moved to Reidsville, NC where she continued to raise her family after her husband purchased a small cemetery outside the city limits of Reidsville, NC, Evergreen Memory Gardens, Inc.
From February 1968 until November 2016 she served as President of Evergreen Memory Gardens, Inc.
On Friday evening, January 27th, 2017, Babette died of natural causes at her home. She has just turned 89 years old.
She is survived by three children, Dawn P. Williams of Reidsville, NC, Gregory B. Daly of Washington, D.C. and Chad L. Daly of Knoxville, TN, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
She was a loving mother, housekeeper, and dutiful wife to her husband, Leslie A. Daly, Jr.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Holy Infant Catholic Church at 10:00 AM with Father Tim Daly officiating.
