Barbara Walker Oakes

Barbara Walker Oakes, 72, of Reidsville, NC went home to be with Lord on Monday, April 18, 2022.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022, at 11 AM at Smyrna Presbyterian Church with Rev. Tom Wray officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the church. The burial will follow the service at the Smyrna Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Barbara was born to the late Mack Daniel Walker and Annie Robinson Walker in Pittsylvania County, Va. She attended George Washington High School in Danville, VA. Barbara was a local beautician in Reidsville for many years and was extremely generous in the community. She was a loving and dedicated friend, caring for everyone in need. She was a long-time member of Smyrna Presbyterian Church. Barbara will be remembered for her gardens and cooking special treats. She canned, baked, and decorated for every holiday. Barbara will be missed by all who knew and loved her so “Hang in there”.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, R. Dean Oakes; husband of 49 years, O. Ralph Oakes; brother, Jimmie Doss Walker and niece, Cheryl Walker Shaw.

Barbara is survived by her grandchildren, Matt Talton and wife, Jennifer, Chris Talton and wife, Lauren, Heather Talton and Julie Hunter; great grandchildren, Mavrick, Madelyn, Wyatt, and Luke Talton; sister, Cindy Kimball and husband, James and great niece, Lisa G. Dabbs as well as a large and loving extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Smyrna Presbyterian Church, in the care of Anne Dixon at 291 Crowder Road, Madison, NC 27025
