Barbara Strader Palmer, 83, of 137 Palmer Road, went home to be with The Lord on Friday, February 19, 2021 at Cone Health Wesley Long Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday at Community Baptist Church with Pastor Randy Hester officiating. The burial will follow at Evergreen Memory Gardens. Please be considerate of the family and remember social distancing and wear a mask. Barbara will be available for viewing at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
Barbara was born in Rockingham County to the late Jule and Annie Edna French Strader. She was a 1956 graduate of Reidsville High School where she played on the basketball team. She was a longtime and faithful member of Community Baptist Church and she also had close ties to Mizpah United Methodist Church. She lived her life serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ spending hours in His word and in prayer. Barbara retired in 1997 from the Rockingham County Department of Social Services with over 30 years of service. She adored her family and she enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending time with her family. Along with her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband Harold C. “Buck” Palmer, Sr.; son Harold C. “Hal” Palmer, Jr.; sister, Mary Byrd Strader Keck; brothers (her twin) Bobby Ray Strader and Julius Wayne Strader.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Samantha Palmer Fettig and husband, David; daughter-in-law Cindy Palmer Ulma; grandchildren Timmy Belton, Kelly Belton, Chris Fettig and Katie Manspile; great grandchildren Savanah Belton, Haidyn Belton, Alice Fettig, Madelyn Fettig and Ella Johnson; sister Rebecca Strader Robertson; lifelong friends Mike and Eleanor Green; and a large extended family.
