Summerfield – Ben Dewey Taylor, 87, of 161 Bramble Way, died on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Hospice Home of Rockingham County.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 29, 2013, at 1:00 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Heath Lloyd officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Reidsville.
Ben was born in Rockingham County to the late George Benjamin and Edna Craddock Taylor. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and attended Fairview Baptist Church. In the past, he was a member of the Stoneville Volunteer Fire Department and an auxiliary police officer. He served on the Stoneville town board and played on Stoneville Furniture Baseball League. He retired from American Tobacco after 43 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruby Mabe, Belva Jones and Nora Smith; his brothers, Raymond Taylor and Coy Taylor.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Hazel Stadler Taylor of the home; his son Daryl Taylor and wife, Dana of Summerfield. His daughter Dorothy Sisk and husband, Louis of Stoneville. Four grandchildren: Scott Sisk, Lori Joyce, Gena Sisk and Gavin Taylor. Great grandson, Alex Joyce. Two brothers, Leroy Taylor of Madison and Harry Taylor of Portland, Oregon. Sisters, Ila Case of Mayodan and Leone Gilbert of Stoneville.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 28 from 6-8 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
