Goldsboro - Bertha Hutchens Wallace, 83, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center of Goldsboro.Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Shady Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Larsen officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery.Mrs. Wallace was born in Guilford County, NC and was the daughter of the late Roy Benton and Sudie Mae Bradshaw Hutchens. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. Bertha loved to play bingo and was an avid gardener, fisher, Atlanta Braves and NASCAR fan. She was a loving, momma and grandmother that loved her family deeply. Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenneth Eugene Wallace, Sr.; baby boy Wallace; sister, Margaret Griffin; brother, Robert Hutchens; brother-in-law, Leonard Griffin. Mrs. Wallace is survived by her children, Sandy Ashby of Knoxville, TN., Genie Dombroski and husband, Ski of Clovis, N.M., Debby Whitley of Alburtis, PA. and Kenneth Wallace, Jr. of Goldsboro, N.C.; grandchildren, Brian Matoy, Jessica Dombroski and Kenneth Roy Wallace; great-grandchildren, Skylee, Chase and Logan Matoy; brothers, Donald Hutchens and wife Iva Lee and William Hutchens and wife Nancy; sister-in-law, Helen Hutchens; special friends, Cheryl, Becky, ChariLee and Rachel and beloved nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at Shady Grove Baptist Church.Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Bertha's honor to Kitty Askins Hospice Center; 107 Handley Park Ct., Goldsboro, N.C. 27534.
