Bessie Orrell Cummings

Bessie Orrell Cummings, 86, went to be with the Lord on January 13, 2021 at UNC Rockingham Rehab Center. A graveside service will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, January, 15, 2021 at Evergreen Memory Gardens with Rev. Howard Owens officiating. You may pay your respects and sign the register book between Thursday afternoon and Friday at noon before the service. We ask that you use precautions and remember to wear a mask and social distance. Bessie was born in Guilford County to the late Jessie Dow Orrell and Florence Lillian James Orrell. She was a retiree of the Rockingham County School System and attended Amazing Grace Baptist Church. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Herman Cummings; sister, Sue Lovings and brother, L.D. Orrell. Bessie is survived by her daughters, Janet Cummings Somers and husband, Mike and Sheila Cummings Bullock and husband, Bryan. Granny Bess especially enjoyed her grandchildren, Heather Somers Kelley and husband, Kenny, Amy Somers, Carly Bullock and Ben Bullock; and her great grandson, Braxton Somers. Also surviving is her sister, Judy Lawson. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. The family would like to especially thank the staff of UNC Rockingham Rehab Center of Eden for the exceptional care given to Granny Bess during her stay there.
