Reidsville- Bettie Jean Echols Lucas, 74, of 1618 Harrison Crossroad Loop, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 16, 2015, at Moses Cone Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM, on Thursday, August 20, 2015, at Lawsonville Road Baptist Church with Pastor Ron Tuck and Pastor Garfield Doss officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Betty was born in Rockingham County to the late Edward and Alma Collins Echols and was a retiree of AT&T with 40 years service. She also retired from Morehead Nursing Center as activities director with 10 years service. She was a longtime and faithful member of Lawsonville Road Baptist Church where she sang in the choir was a Sunday school teacher for many years and a member of the Sunshine Ladies Club. Bettie was a sweet and loving wife and a wonderful Christian lady who touched the lives of many. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her, brother, James Echols.
Survivors include husband, Larry Lucas; sister, Shirley Clifton and husband, Larry; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dwight and Wilma Lucas; nephews, Dale Clifton, Keith Clifton, Mike Echols and wife, Liz and Dusty Lucas and wife, Katie; niece, Cindy Echols; special cousins, Brenda Nichols, Linda Harvell and Arnold and Joyce Ward; special friends, Garfield and Judy Doss, Shirley and Jim Williams, Robin and Ollie Miller and Ed and Connie Stines.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 19, 2015, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
