Betty McGee Ayers, 87, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at her home in Madison.

The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Saturday, February 15, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.

Betty was born on May 8, 1937, to the late Walter and Erma McGee in Oxford (Granville County), North Carolina. She was a devoted Jehovah’s Witness who loved Sunday family dinners. Betty enjoyed crocheting, NASCAR, football, country music, and both crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She was famous for her Haystack snacks, especially among her grandchildren. Betty was outspoken, but also kind and loving, and she will be deeply missed by all her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe M. Ayers; daughter, Reba Cannon; great-grandchild, Britney Dickerson; brothers, Harold McGee, Wade McGee, and Billy McGee; and sisters, Elizabeth Currin, Allie Marie Harp, Lou Ellen Oakley, and Sarah Shropshire.

She is survived by her children, John Ayers (Shannon) and Sam Humphries; grandchildren, Vicky Dodson (Chris), Katie Strandberg (Joseph), Walter Dickerson (Nicole), Sammy Dickerson, Melissa Dickerson, Amanda Dickerson, Kimberly Humphries, Mindy Humphries, Stephanie Holder, and Matthew Holder; Step grandchildren Haley Stockard, and Aubrey Harvey; and great-grandchildren, Tyler, Nicolas, Riley, Nathan, Dwight, Walter, Layla, Hope, Shayne, Kayleigh, Olivia, Madilyn, Joshua, Eragon, Kevin Jr., Kaleb, and Cason.
