On Monday, February 26, 2024, Betty Ann Wagoner Busick was welcomed into the Gates of Heaven. Waiting for her was her high school sweetheart and husband of 65 years, Glenn Thomas Busick. While Betty was a patient at Beacon House in Greensboro, her devoted sister, Shirley Dean Wagoner Huffines, kept a constant vigil by her side accompanied by her nieces and nephews.
Born on July 27, 1932, Betty and her six brothers and sisters were the children of Nettie Ann Stanfield Wagoner and Roy Celester Wagoner, who farmed tobacco in the Monticello community. She was predeceased by her brothers; Leon Franklin (Frances), Paul C. (Mildred), “Doc” (Dot), Charles (Sarah) and her special brother-in-law, Don Huffines; in addition to her dear late sister, Lillian Wagoner Jones (Ernest), who shared many of her passions.
Betty was a dedicated professional who was devoted to her career. She took pride in her 42 years of service to Barclays Commercial Credit financial group, where she served as finance officer.
Betty and Glenn spent much many evenings cheering on their beloved Tar Heels and Atlanta Braves. In addition, Betty dearly loved gardening flowers and vegetables. With a special fondness for orchids, she enjoyed cultivating and propagating exotic African Violets, but her favorite flower was Gerbera daisies. As an accomplished cook, she mastered the art of making delicious Christmas icebox fruit cakes, along with sourdough rolls and banana pudding, which brought pleasure to everyone.
Betty’s home church was Friendship Methodist Church. When married, she became a lifelong member of Apple's Chapel Christian Church where she enjoyed service and mission projects as an active membership in her Helping Hands Sunday School Class. Betty’s community service included countless years as an active member of the Monroeton Garden Club.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Apple's Chapel Christian Church with Rev. Dave Johnson and Rev. C. Allen Myers officiating. The family will receive friends from (1 p.m. till 2 p.m.) prior to the service, with burial following in Apple's Chapel Cemetery.
