Betty Ellington Scearce

Betty Ellington Scearce, 87, went home to be with The Lord on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at Moses Cone Hospital. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery with Pastor Ronnie Warner officiating. The family will receive friends in the Mt. Carmel Church fellowship hall after the service and other times at the home. Mrs. Scearce was born in Rockingham County to the late, George “Buck” and Mary Powell Ellington. She graduated from Ruffin High School and attended Rockingham County Community College. She was a longtime and faithful member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. Mrs. Scearce was formerly employed with First Citizens Bank and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Winfred Ellington Brande; and her brothers, Otis Ellington and Warren Ellington. Mrs. Scearce is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, GW Scearce of the home; her children, Terry Scearce and wife, Tanya of Statesville, NC, Dwight Scearce and Diane Scearce both of Reidsville; grandchildren, Angela Walker and husband, Dean, Bryce Scearce and wife, Felicia, Jenny Thomas and husband, Ray, Rainey Scearce, Brandon Poole, Kelly Hawkins and husband, Jr and Ashley Page and husband, Justin; great grandchildren, Ryan and Lindsay Walker, Carlea and Jared Thomas, Caycee and MacKenzie Poole, Curtis and Seth Hawkins, Hannah and Kaylee Page; great granddaughter, Addie; sister, Nancy Collie of Reidsville and a large extended family.
