Reidsville - Betty Hobbs Cummings, 77, of 2212 St. James Drive, passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at her home.A funeral memorial service will be held at 10:00AM on Monday, July 23, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church on Main Street with Dr. Doug McLeroy officiating. Interment will follow in First Presbyterian Columbarium.Betty was born in Eden, North Carolina on February 2, 1935 to the late Howard Gaither and Lillian Sapp Walker. She was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church where she was very active and loved the church. Throughout her life in the church she was a member of the Women's Circle, sang in the choir and was the founder and supporter of the columbarium for the church. She always had a great love for art and culture and was a well know business woman in the community establishing Arts and Frames by Betty Hobbs. Her passion for Art and a huge supporter of Art in Rockingham County led her to encourage many people to pursue their endeavors in Art. Betty was a loving mother and loved her family dearly but most of all she enjoyed living life to the fullest. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Richard "Dick" Hobbs; second husband, Bill Cummings; brothers, Dolphus, Elbert and Billy Walker and sisters, Faye Walker, Orena Nichols and Nell Gravely. Betty surely will be missed by all that knew her and the charismatic way of life she brought to everyone she met.Betty is survived by her son, Rick Hobbs; daughter, Beth Hobbs Hux and husband, Kenneth all of Reidsville; nephew, Dr. Stan Gravely and wife, Jodi; several nieces and nephews; neighbors, Bea, Carole, Polly, Catherine, Renee and her dearest friend, Jean Pollock along with many of her loving friends and artist and her beloved pets, Hedi, Bobbie and Blackstone. The family will receive friends Sunday, July 22 from 4 - 7 PM at Betty's Home; 2212 St. James Drive, Reidsville.At the family request, please do not send flowers. Memorial contributions may be made in Betty's honor to either First Presbyterian Church or to The Reidsville Woman's Club or to the Rockingham County Animal Shelter.
