Betty Jean Overcash Smith

Betty Jean Overcash Smith, 61, passed away July 1, 2016 at Morehead Memorial Hospital. A memorial service is planned for 2:00PM Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Dan River Wesleyan Church, 191 Dan River Church Road in Eden. The family will see friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00-2:00PM at the church. Inurnment will be at a later date. At other times the family will be at the home of Mrs. Smith, 312 North Bridge Street in Eden or at her husband’s parents’ home at 2782 Odell School Road in Concord, NC. Mrs. Smith was born in Mooresville, NC to the late Carl Arthur Overcash and Johnsie Marie Morgan Overcash. She was a 1973 graduate of Northwest Cabarrus High School. She graduated in 1977 from Warren Wilson College with a BA Degree in Biology Education and in 1980 from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College with an Associate Degree in Nursing. Jean was employed as a Registered Nurse in the Long-Term Care Industry and held positions of Care-Planning Management for Brian Center of Mooresville, NC and Wesley Long Nursing Center (now Adams Farm Nursing Center) until retiring in 2003 due to disability. She was of the Wesleyan Faith. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Arthur Overcash of Salisbury, NC. Survivors include her husband, Matthew J. (Matt) Smith of the home: sisters, Marie S. (Suzi) Kimball of China Grove, NC and Carol O. Dunlap of Goochland, VA; brother, Carl A.(Allen) Overcash of Kannapolis, NC and five nieces and two nephews. Jean was a cancer survivor, and in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society, 4-A Oak Branch Dr. Greensboro, NC 27407-2145. Donations may also be made to the church of your choice or your local Gideon Camp. Wilkerson Funeral Home is assisting the family and condolences may be made to the family at www.wilkersonfuneral.com
