Pelham, NC: Betty Louise Lee Poindexter went home to be with her Lord and Savior surrounded by her family on Sunday, October 28, 2012 at the age of 80. Betty had been in declining health for a number of months before moving to receive the upmost of loving care from her family and the staff of the Hospice Home of Rockingham County in Reidsville, NC.
Born in Rockingham County, NC on June 24, 1932, Betty was the daughter of Andrew and Hazel Strader Lee. She lived all of her life in Rockingham and Caswell Counties. Betty worked for Big Apple Food Stores in Reidsville, NC, who eventually sold their stores to Harris Teeter Food Stores. She retired from Harris Teeter in Danville, VA with 35 years of service. She was also a homemaker and one of the best cooks ever known, famous for her Thanksgiving dressing and cakes and pies. She was an active member of Lively Stones Baptist Church in Pelham, NC.
On November 26, 1952, Betty married Leroy Poindexter of Pelham, NC. They were married for 56 years before his death in January of 2008. Betty is survived by her two daughters, Cheryl P. Brumfield and husband, Charles of Danville, VA, and Kim P. Julian and her husband, Doug of Eden, NC. Three wonderful grandchildren, Matthew Tyler Brumfield of Lynchburg, VA, Kerri Elizabeth Brumfield of Danville, VA and Ryan Adam Julian of Eden, NC. She is also survived by two sisters, Alice L. Watkins of Ringgold, VA and Dalice Glosson of Reidsville, NC, and brother, Andrew Daniel “Danny” Lee of Pelham, NC. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Robert E. Lee of Danville, VA and Lewis D. Lee of Pelham, NC.
The family would also like to mention the loving care provided by Ginny Price who sat with and cared for their mother during her last remaining months giving her family great peace of mind when they could not be there.
A funeral service and celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at Lively Stones Baptist Church in Pelham, NC at 11:30 AM. with the Reverend Michael Kent and Pastor Ralph Clayton officiating. Interment will follow the service at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30 – 11:30 AM at the church prior to the service. At other times, they will be at the home located at 2443 Chandlers Mill Road in Pelham, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Hospice Home of Rockingham County, P.O. Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375.
