Beulah Ann Evans Stanfield

Reidsville, NC - Beulah Evans Stanfield, 92, of 640 Irvin Farm Road, went to her heavenly home surrounded by her four children at the Rockingham County Hospice Home. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Sunday, September 18th at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas Goode officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship United Methodist Church.Beulah was born on January 6, 1919 in Reidsville to the late Aubrey McKinney Evans and Dellie Evans. Growing up on a large farm, in addition to participating in farm work, Beulah helped care for her 4 sisters and 7 brothers. From her mother she learned the arts of cooking and sewing and maintaining a loving and nurturing household. On January 6, 1937, Beulah and Earl McKnight Stanfield were married at Brown Summit Methodist Church. For over thirty years Beulah and McKnight made their home and grew tobacco and strawberries on the Irvin farm. An expert cook, seamstress, quilter, crotchetier, and housekeeper, Beulah provided a home filled with love, warmth, beauty, and comfort for her husband, four children, seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, as well as for all of her extended family and friends who were so fortunate as to visit her. After the death of her husband McKnight in a farm accident in 1972, Beulah adapted to a more independent form of life, building the house they had planned together on former Irvin Farm property they had purchased and developed new talents to adjust to her situation (including innovative small carpentry projects!) Accepting of the inevitable, she nonetheless possessed the determination and will power to "fix" and improve whenever possible. Her family and friends will cherish their precious memories of Beulah's beautiful signature smile, her special and unique wit and humor (especially portrayed in her "Beulahisms"), her ability to instantaneously listen intently and project her care and concern, her innate good taste in all things, her selflessness, gracefulness, charm , and undeflatable spirit. Beulah looked forward to and greatly enjoyed family gatherings held at her home on holidays as well as every Sunday evening. She will be remembered as adorable and enigmatic, childlike yet wise, naïve yet sophisticated. Beulah maintained her sense of humor as well as her sense of decorum and fashion until her last day on earth. Following a brief stay at Carolina House in Reidsville, Beulah resided until her death at the Rockingham County Hospice Home. The family extends its grateful appreciation to the staff at Carolina House, Dr. Zack Hall, the staff at Hospice, Marsha Petty and Naomi Galloway for the outstanding care and loving support and friendship given during Beulah's last weeks, as well as the many visitors during her last weeks many of whom she and we may have been unaware. A member of Mizpah Methodist Church, Beulah greatly enjoyed the visits from her pastor Tom Goode as well as his comforting hymns the visits, cards and gifts from the Mizpah Women's group. For Beulah, the bonds of earthly existence have been loosened, however the bonds of her love remain with her family and friends.
