Billy E. Walker

Summerfield - Billy E. Walker, 74, of 1657 Brown Road, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Wesley Long Community Hospital.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, August 1st, 2012 at Maple Lawn Baptist Church with Rev. Crawford Bradshaw officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Walker was born in Rockingham County and was the son of the late, C.H. "Clete" and Pearl Taylor Walker. After retiring from a career in the automobile industry, "Pop" enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, restoring antique tractors, wood working and riding his golf cart around the farm. He also loved attending Maple Lawn Baptist Church. Along with his parents he was also preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Lee Walker and his sister, Peggy Owens.He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gladys Collins Walker of the home; his children, Keith Walker, Ken Walker and wife, Rena, Kevin Walker and wife, Elena, Kennette Peterson and husband, Steve; grandchildren, Karla Webb, Kourtney Walker, Maghon Walker, Clint Walker, Kasey Walker, Olivia Peterson and Alice Constantinescu; great grandchildren, Bishop and Drew Collier; sisters, Jewel Pruitt and husband, Jack, Margie Collins and Faye Chapmon and husband, Mac; brothers, Elon Walker and wife, Lou and Gary Walker and wife, Evon; sisters-in-law, Margaret Pruitt, Alice Mason and husband, Byrd, Jean Ross and husband, Doug and Brenda Ware; and numerous nieces and nephews.The family will be receiving friends Tuesday, July 31st from 6:30 - 8:30 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at his home.The family would like to express the heartfelt gratitude for the special care given to Mr. Walker by Dr. Donald Murinson and the staff at Wesley Long Cancer Center.Memorial contributions may be made to the Maple Lawn Baptist Church, 5401 NC 65, Reidsville, NC 27320 or American Cancer Society, 4A Oak Branch Drive, Greensboro, NC 27407.Wilkerson Funeral Home is assisting the family and condolences may be sent to www.wilkersonfuneral.com.
