Reidsville: Brenda Rakestraw Moore, 66, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2016, at Hospice of Rockingham County. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, August 5, 2016, at Smyrna Presbyterian Church with Rev. Tom Wray officiating. Interment will follow in New Lebanon Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-8 P.M., at Wilkerson Funeral Home. Brenda was born on May 3, 1950, in Rockingham County, to William Gilbert and Virginia Payne Rakestraw. She graduated from Wentworth High School in 1968, and later attended Rockingham Community College where she received her Cosmetology License. She liked to work in the yard and she was an excellent cook. She enjoyed her time with family and friends. She was a very loving wife, mother, grammy, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Brenda was preceded in death by her father, William Gilbert “Jack” Rakestraw. Survivors include her husband, Thomas Moore; her daughter, Jennifer Powell and husband Bobby; her son, Jonathan Moore and wife Jenni; three grandchildren, Tyler Powell, Lane Powell and Jenna Rue Moore; her mother, Virginia Payne Rakestraw her brother, Sammy Rakestraw and wife Jan; her brother-in-law, Michael Moore; her sisters-in-law, Barbara Tickle and husband Danny and Faye Warren; her nephews, Brian Rakestraw and wife April, Mark Rakestraw and wife Jennifer, Scott Tickle and wife Ruby, Stephen Tickle and wife Stacey, Jeff Warren and wife Karen, Brad Warren and wife Lori, Jacob Moore, Lucas Moore and Nicholas Moore; her niece, Michelle Arias, and numerous great nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Penland, Sue Burgess and the rest of the staff at the Annie Penn Cancer Center, to the staff at Wesley Long Hospital and to the staff at Hospice of Rockingham County for all of the care and love they have given to Brenda and her family.
