Brenda Lasley Small

Brenda Lasley Small, 81, of Summerfield, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2024, at Moses Cone Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, April 22, 2024, at Sharon Baptist Church with Pastor Kevin Duncan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall and other times at home.

Brenda was born in Rockingham County to the late James Earl Lasley and Gracie Mae Comer Lasley. She was a longtime member at Sharon Baptist Church and worked outside the home until her children were born. In her earlier years, she enjoyed working with her family on the farm raising strawberries, tobacco farming, and working in the garden. She also enjoyed fishing and the yearly beach vacations with the family, as well as playing softball with her church family. Her days were filled raising their two girls, sewing, canning and freezing. She loved flowers, bird watching, crafts and especially spending time with her granddaughter. Brenda always looked forward to her annual beach trips spent playing Rook with her girlfriends and could often be found at home watching her stories or game shows, while she crocheted.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, David Lasley and sister, Glenda Medford.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Gene Small; daughters, Cindy Moore and husband, Blake, and Cheryl Small; granddaughter, Brooke Hyler; brother, Gary Lasley; sister, Sandy Garrison and husband, Jerry.
