Camellia Olesen Gunn

GUNN-Camellia Olesen Gunn (January 16, 1941 - June 12, 2011), a native of Reidsville, was the daughter of Peder Meldahl Olesen of Skive, Denmark and Eva Regina Adams of Salem, VA. She attended Reidsville’s public schools and was an honor student. A business program graduate of Womans College of the University of North Carolina, she was a longtime secretary at Chase Bag Company. After marriage she eventually moved to Jacksonville, FL in 1977. A homemaker with an outgoing personality, she participated in prison ministry through the Episcopal Diocese of Florida as well as visited those who were sick or troubled and often sat with the elderly. She was predeceased by her parents, an infant son, and is survived by her husband of forty-one years, Thomas H. Gunn, and two daughters, Karen C. Gunn and Dr. Laura H. Gunn, (fiance Dr. German Molina Calvo), a brother-in-law, Harold M. Gunn (Tish), and one nephew, “Guy” Gunn. She is also survived by her closest cousins in age, Joan Vandergrift Price (Arthur), Clark Vandergrift, and Alice Choplin Hudspeth (Bernie) and other cousins plus friends from church and school days. Prior to her illness she attended Sunday School, choir rehearsals, and worshiped at St. Johns Presbyterian Church. Visitation is from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. Sunday, the 19th, at Wilkerson Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. in Reidlawn Cemetery, Monday, the 20th. Memorials may be made to the Choir of St. Johns Presbyterian Church, 4275 Herschel Street, Jacksonville, FL 32210.
