Carol Ruth Varney Reid, 82, of Greensboro, passed away on Friday, January 15, 2021.
Due to COVID-19 there will be a memorial service to celebrate her life at a later date.
She was born in New York, on June 29, 1938, Carol was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Houston Reid, Jr; parents, Charles Oliver Varney, Jr and Adelaide Ruth Varney. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Coltrane (Bobby) of Browns Summit, NC and sons, Tom Reid (Susan) of Temecula, CA and Bill Reid (Shannon) of Richmond, VA; eight grandchildren, Dustin Coltrane (Jordan), Austin Coltrane, Lauren Coltrane, Matthew Reid, Kaite Reid, Maggie Reid, Tyler Reid and Dylan Reid; and two great grandchildren, Saige Coltrane and Kyzer Coltrane; sister Jeanne Eichna, brother Bob Varney (Sandy) and many special nieces.
Carol was a Registered Nurse earning a bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Wagner College in 1960. She spent more than 40 years in various disciplines of nursing including the public health department, private practice, the larger acute care setting and, of course, at home with her children and grandchildren. A natural problem solver, Carol excelled in the clinical environment as well as at home where she constantly demonstrated that planning and determination will typically lead to a favorable outcome. She was a very active member of the Lutheran Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. Carol will be remembered as the humble and loyal backbone of her family. She was devoted to her family and friends. She worked tirelessly and selflessly ensuring everyone was cared for while working, attending countless ball games, playing cards, doing puzzles and traveling with her husband of 54 years. She will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure to know her.
