Reidsville: Charles “Charlie” E. Manley, found his faith and went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October, 20, 2015 at the Hospice Home of Rockingham County.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Tuck officiating. The burial will follow in Evergreen Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Charlie was born in Rockingham County and was known as a great baseball pitcher. He was actually scouted by the New York Mets and played in the minor leagues for several years. On his return to Reidsville, he had many successful years playing softball for Ken’s Carpet. Charlie was recognized in high school for being the most gifted and spirited among his peers. He was formerly employed at the Ball Cannery and was the owner and operator of H.E. Manley Paint Company. During the last season of his life, Charlie regretted not giving his life to the Lord sooner because of the joy and peace he found in his personal relationship with Jesus. He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Manley.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Mary Apple Manley of the home: his daughters, Jessica Symank of Seattle, WA and Katie Manley of Dearborn, MI; his granddaughter, Sophia Symank; his mother, Frances Allen Manley; his sisters, Susan Dunlow and husband, Ray and Wanda Hopper and husband, Steve; his brother, Curtis Manley and wife, Mildred all of Reidsville; and several nieces and nephews.
