Charles Jennings Davis

Reidsville:   Charles Jennings Davis of 251 Copperhead Rd., died Saturday, January 19, 2008, at Moses Cone Hospital. Born (a twin) on April 12, 1925 to Grace A. and Alfred E. Davis, of Providence, NC.   Charles grew up one of four sons, Clifton, William “Johnny” (his twin) and Frank. He was a proud World War II U.S. Army veteran, and worked most of his life as a lineman for YC Ballenger (through Duke Power Co.).   A member of Baptist Temple Church and the Mountain Climbers (senior adult group), where he faithfully attended and supported.   He enjoyed working with the land – gardening, any tractor or farming work, cracking walnuts, helping cook for his family, beekeeping, fishing, and meeting his friends at breakfast.   He enjoyed people and touched many lives.  He delighted in giving a friend a helping hand.   His strength and love were amazing examples throughout his life as a devoted and loving husband, an inspiring father and grandfather, and reliable and interesting friend. Charles is survived by his wife of 61 years, Naomi Allen Davis; four children, Debbie and husband, Bobby Haskins, Charles Alan (Al) Davis, Ann and husband,   Dennis Campbell, Sherry and husband, Robert Isley; grandchildren, Jason and wife, Kim Campbell, Scott Campbell, Christy and husband, Michael Harrelson; great-grandchildren, Michael Plummer, Mason Campbell, Barid Propp, and Chelsie Campbell.   Survived also by one dear brother, Frank Coleman Davis and wife, Gladys of Portsmouth, VA; five sisters-in-law, Theresa Davis, Alma Rogers, Martha Rudder, Katie Bowes, and Nettie Solomon and husband, Earl; many beloved nieces and nephews and dear friends. “Charlie” cherished his family both immediate and church.   Most of all he loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.   The strength and clarity that God granted Charles to the end of his life captivated doctors and nurses on his case. Charles’ family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home 5-7 PM on Tuesday, January 22.     A funeral and “Celebration of Life” for Charles will be held Wednesday, January 23 at 11:00 AM at Baptist Temple Church.   Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Baptist Temple Church, 729 Wentworth Street, Reidsville, NC 27320. The family would like to express their love and appreciation to any and all persons that aided in any way in the care of Charles during this latest time of illness.   Dr. Roy Fagan, Charles’ favorite nurse, Jewell, the nurses of the ER at Annie Penn and the Critical Care Unit and the Palliative Care Unit at Moses Cone were amazing.   Thank you for loving and caring for this precious man.
