Chuck, as his friends called him, was born on August 16, 1936, in Durham, NC, to the late Beatrice Joyce and Billie Pettigrew. He retired from the military with eleven years in the U.S. Army and eleven years in the N.C. National Guard. He took great pride in having served with the 82nd Airborne Div. and the V Corp. Band of Bandits. After retirement from the military, he worked in law enforcement with Leakesville, Eden, and Madison Police Departments, and the Rockingham Sheriff's Department, having to retire due to health problems. In his leisure time, Chuck loved to scuba dive and run. He ran one marathon and many 5K's and loved to go dancing with his soul mate Bev.
Chuck is survived by his very loving companion and soul mate, Beverly Schultz of the home; his granddaughter, Ella Joyce of High Point, and his ever true canine running partner, Buddy.
