Reidsville: Charles Lewis O’Bryant, Jr., 86, of 392 O’Bryant Road, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Midway United Methodist Church with Rev. Jonathan Marlowe officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Charles was born in Polk County, Florida to the late Charles Lewis O’Bryant, Sr. and Ellen Acree O’Bryant. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean Conflict as a Civil Affairs and Military Government officer. He was a retired Rehabilitation Psychologist with the US Veterans Affairs and a member of Midway United Methodist Church and the Jefferson Penn Masonic Lodge # 384 AF&AM. Football was a passion and a scholarship allowed him to attend college. He received his undergraduate degree from North Carolina State University, where he played and lettered in football, and his masters degree from Appalachian State University. Education remained important to him throughout his life, and he worked hard to make sure that his children and grandchildren received good educations.
An avid rancher, Charles loved the out-of-doors, his horses, cattle and dogs, and working on the farm. He was always busy mending fences or taking care of his animals. He loved sharing his love of nature with his family. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Cecyle Arnold O’Bryant.
Survivors include his wife, Pattie Apple O’Bryant; sons, Charles L. O’Bryant, III, Hubert Arnold O’Bryant and Patrick Cullom O’Bryant; daughter-in- laws, Mona, Tansy and Suzanne; grandchildren, James O’Bryant, Roan O’Bryant, Cody O’Bryant and Jack Knott; sister, Nancy O’Bryant Turner.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 1, 2016 from 4:00 to 6:00 at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
