Christopher “Chris” Douglas DeJournette,29 of Reidsville, went home to be with the Lord on September 19, 2020 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC.
Friends and family are invited to attend a graveside service for Chris at 2:00pm on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at Reidlawn Cemetery, 1530 Barnes St, Reidsville, NC 27320, with Reverend John Hairston officiating. There will not be a formal visitation, however, friends and family are welcome to sign his register book at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 8:30am-5:00pm. Everyone is welcome to attend a candlelight vigil on Wednesday, from 7:00pm to 8:00pm, at 607 Marcellus St. Reidsville, NC. Due to Covid-19 the family request that everyone remembers to wear a mask during all services for Chris.
Christopher was born on September 22, 1990 in Rockingham County and attended Reidsville High School. Chris was known as the “go-to” person who always checked on everyone and cared deeply for his friends and family. He loved fishing, four-wheeling, basketball, but his passion was being at the Piedmont Racetrack with his father and “Dirty Bird”. Chris was a wonderful and proud Daddy to three children which he considered his greatest accomplishment and joy.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, “Papa and Nannie”, Billy and Ester Campbell.
Chris is survived by his parents, Doug and Betty DeJournette of Pelham, NC; sister, Ashley DeJournette of Pelham, NC; children, Jaela Nichole Surratt, Braylen Christopher DeJournette, and Zendaya “Bookie” DeJournette; paternal grandmother, Diane DeJournette of Ruffin, NC; niece and nephew, Brianna and TJ Blackwell; fiancée, Beate Rucker of Reidsville; aunts, Patsy Wilson (Jeff), Teresa Jewell (Ronnie), Diana Herbin, Cynthia DeJournette; uncle, Dewayne “Bit” DeJournette (Loretta); mother of Jaela and Braylen, Jameka Surratt; “go-to” cousin, Shanice DeJournette; in addition to numerous extended family and friends.
