Clara Hopper Brown

Pelham, Clara Hopper Brown, 87, of 7454 Old Highway 29 N, died Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at Moses Cone Hospital.   Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, July 19, 2008 in Ruffin United  Methodist Church with Rev. Laura Wyant officiating.   Interment will follow at Ruffin Cemetery.   The pallbearers will be Harden Brown, Jr., Gary Brown, Jimmy Worsham, Roger Baity, Daniel Purgason, Buck Poindexter, and Pete Carter honorary pallbearer. Mrs. Brown was born December 20, 1920, in Stokes County, to the late Preston Duke and Lula Carroll Hopper. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Henry Brown; three sisters and two brothers. She was a graduate of Ruffin High School; a member of Ruffin United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir for many years; she enjoyed cooking, working crossword puzzles and dancing. She is survived by a son, Robert Lee (Bobby) Brown; one daughter, Rebecca Ann (Becky) Brown; grandchildren, Jeffrey Alexander Brown and wife, Heather, Daryl Lee Chapman, Melody Lynn Brown, Amanda Nicole Philips and husband, Chris, and Melanie Harrington,; great-grandchildren, Shayne and Cody Harrington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ruffin United Methodist Church, PO Box 66, Ruffin, NC 27326. The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., Friday, July 18, 2008 at Wilkerson Funeral Home. Other time the family will be at the residence.
