Clara "Onita" Moore Dixon, 87, of Summerfield, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, February 17, 2025.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, February 23, 2025, at Glencoe United Methodist Church with Dr. Donald Haynes and Chaplin Hunter Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Glencoe United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Onita was born in Rockingham County to the late Alan Pratt Moore and Martha Alberta Chambers Pennington. She owned and operated Onita’s Beauty Salon for over 50 years. She was a longtime member of Glencoe United Methodist Church for over 70 years, where she taught Sunday school, led Vacation Bible School, sang in the choir, and was active in the United Methodist Women. When she wasn’t at the salon or church, she spent her time on the farm, enjoying farming and gardening.
Onita was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Jack T. Dixon; her children, Jerome Dixon (Lisa) of Greensboro; Drexall Dixon (Donna) of home; Donnell Walker (Kenny) of Reidsville; Latina Dixon (Tony) of Reidsville; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Mama’s caregivers, Sheryl, Tamela, Binkie, Sherri, Lori, Alexis, and Ancora Compassionate Care of Rockingham County (formerly Hospice).
Mama had a strong yet quiet spirit which she put to work throughout her life and used to sustain her through her final challenge with dementia, the long goodbye. She faced each downward step with dignity and bravery, and with her last breath, we believe she was received into the welcoming arms of Jesus, healed, and happy to rejoin her loved ones that she missed so much.
In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation to Glencoe United Methodist Church and Ancora Compassionate Care of Rockingham County.
