Ruffin: Curtis K. Austin, 77, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2015 at Roman Eagle Rehab and Health Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 22 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Brother Don Meeks officiating. Entombment will follow in Highland Burial Park in Danville, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Curtis was born in Rockingham County to the late Theodore C. and Pauline Setliff Austin. He and his cousin, Mike Setliff owned and operated Setliff and Austin Plumbing for a number of years before his retirement. Curtis was very talented, an avid reader and was an excellent cook. He especially loved baking cakes, BBQing, and was a Master Stew maker for his friends and family. One night a week he would cook for his buddies, they loved his homemade biscuits and fried chicken. He was well known for his homemade pickles that he always sent by his son, Tim to Nashville, TN to his favorite bands. In return the bands invited him to the Award Shows and for fellowship with them after the show. He loved traveling, especially flying and taking cruises with his wife and Reid and Phyllis Pruitt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Kay Burnett.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty D. Austin of the home; son, Timothy K. Austin and wife, Debbie of Goodlettsyville, TN; grandchildren, Rebecca and Seth Curtis Austin; nieces, Robyn J. Catlett and husband, Donnie, Jeanna Dillon and husband, Steve; special cousin, Mike Setliff and wife, Susan and family; great nephew, Donnie Catlett; great niece, Kayren Pleasant.
