Curtis Sterling Chilton, 79, of 107 Glenoaks Drive, Lexington NC passed away, Monday, May 13, 2013 at Hospice of Davidson County after a ten year battle with cancer. The funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Lowes United Methodist Church, 3191 NC 87, Reidsville, NC 27320. The burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and family following the service in the Fellowship Hall of the church.
Curtis was born on July 17, 1933 in Caswell County to the late Bryant and Gussie Chilton. Curtis was a long time baseball fan and he played in the Army when he was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany (1954-1956). He graduated from Guildford College and worked for the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development as an appraiser for thirty years. Curtis loved outdoor activities and one of his family's fondest memories is of family trips camping in the mountains and at the beaches of North Carolina. Curtis also loved playing golf and cards and is widely regarded as being the "guru" of a favorite family card game called "Oh Heck".
Curtis is survived by his wife Geri Stanley Chilton; daughters Lisa Chilton Tomlin (Doug) and Cynthia Jean Chilton; son Darren Curtis Chilton (Slavica Nikolic); sisters Nadine Kernoldle of Greensboro and Nell Jean Simmons of Elon. Grandchildren, Brooke Tomlin Cranfill (Chris), Brad Tomlin (Meredith), and Marina Anais Nikolic-Chilton; Great Grandchildren, Kayleigh Ann Cranfill, Addison Faith Cranfill and Cooper Bradley Tomlin. Curtis was predeceased by two brothers, Gaylard Chilton of Reidsville and Donald Chilton of Charlotte.
