Reidsville: Curtis Dillard McGee, Sr., of 154 Old Farm Lane, passed away at Blumenthal Jewish Nursing and Rehab Center, Greensboro, NC on Friday, September 24, 2010.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, September 26, 2010 at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park, Highway 29 North, Greensboro, NC.
Mr. McGee was born in Rockingham County to the late Alfred Lee and Lillie Poindexter McGee on February 24, 1923. Curtis was of the Baptist faith. He was musically inclined and enjoyed playing the violin, mandolin and guitar. Along with training his own and other friends bird dogs, he loved to hunt and fish. He earned his pilot license at the age of 38 and served in the US Air Force during World War II. He owned and operated McGee’s Grocery for 48 years and was a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Nance McGee of the home; sons, Curtis Dillard “C. D.” McGee, Jr. and wife, Frances of Germanton, Alfred Aaron McGee and wife, Pat of Reidsville; daughters, Carol Chrismon and husband, Garrett of Brown Summit and Sarah E. McGee of Dallas, NC; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and sister, Leona Joines of Brown Summit.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
