Curtis Junior Porterfield

Ruffin-Curtis Junior Porterfield, 83, of 2269 Estes Road, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 5, 2012.A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, April 9, 2012 at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Loftis officiating. Interment will follow in Reidlawn cemetery.Curtis was born on April 7, 1928 in Orange County, NC to the late James Lem and Daisy Porterfield Porterfield. He was a farmer and also he retired from Burlington Industries. Curtis was of the Holiness faith who was a loving husband, father, and grandfather that loved his family dearly. Mr. Porterfield enjoyed being an outdoorsman which included his long walks, gardening, fishing and working in the yard. He enjoyed watching westerns, shopping, and he especially loved his cars. More than anything he enjoyed eating his deserts, buttermilk and cornbread. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph, Harold and Hubert Porterfield.Survivors include his beloved wife, Katie Porterfield of 56 years, of the home; his children, Joseph Porterfield of Ruffin, Danny Porterfield and wife, Claudia of Reidsville, Kenneth Porterfield and wife Cindy of Eden, Rose McAlister and husband, Eddie of Reidsville, Tammy Church of Reidsville, and Wesley Porterfield of Ruffin; thirteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Blanch Perkins and Elsie Mitchell and many extended family members.The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Sunday, April 8, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM and other times at the home.The family wishes to give a special thank you to the staff of Advance Home Care, Carolina Apothecary, Dr. Hawkins and Dr. Weintraub for the care they showed toward Curtis during his illness.The family request that either flowers can be sent or contributions may be made to Wilkerson Funeral Home to help the family with final expenses.
