Browns Summit - Gene D. Faucette, of the Monticello community, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2012 at his home.Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, April 4, 2012 at Monticello United Church of Christ with Rev. Gary Owens and Rev. Tim Reimer officiating. The burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Park.Gene was born in Guilford County, NC and was the son of the late Marion Cleo Faucette and Nancy Sidney Dowty. He was a member of Monticello United Church of Christ and a member of the Stokesdale Masonic Lodge. After graduating from Monticello High School in 1947, he served in the US Army and then attended Appalachian State University. A farmer himself, Mr. Faucette founded Monticello Oil Company, Inc. and served the Monticello farmers for many years. After selling his business and working briefly as a carpenter, he retired from the US Postal Service as a rural letter carrier in 1990.Gene was an avid reader of American history, especially the Civil War and US presidents. He loved to hunt, fish, and play golf with friends and family.He was preceded in death by his brother Horace R. Faucette, Sr. and sister Jane Faucette Harris.Gene is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Evelyn Bishop Faucette, son Daniel E Faucette and wife Wendy, daughter Sue Faucette Hudson and husband Bob; his grandchildren Katie Reimer and husband Reverend Tim; Brian Faucette, Woody Hudson, and Emily Hudson; great grandchildren Owen and Eli Reimer.The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 from 6-8 pm. at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the home.The family would like to express their appreciation for the wonderful care given to their father by Dr. Jay Ganji, Hospice of Greensboro, and Comfort Keepers of Greensboro.Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave. Greensboro, NC 27405 or Monticello UCC, 5001 Highway 150 East, Browns Summit, NC 27214.
