David Rufus Dickens Sr.

David R. Dickens Sr. 65, passed away peacefully at his home in Eden, NC.

A funeral service will be held at 2PM on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Hicks officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8PM on Friday, August 26, 2022, and other times at the home of David Dickens Jr.

David was born in Rockingham County to the late Rufus Dickens and Martha Grubbs. He attended fellowship Baptist Church in Danville and also periodically attended Osbourne Baptist in Eden. He loved to work in the garden and “carried on” with everyone he came across. He was a handyman and always kept a project. He loved his dogs, Jake and Sissy, most of all he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 43 years,  Melissa Denny Dickens and his son, Terry Wade Dickens.

David is survived by his children, David Dickens Jr. (Crystal), Mary Manuel McCarthy; grandchildren, Jessica N. Dickens, Candace R. Dickens, Michael W Manuel, Terry M Manuel, Brianna N. Manuel; great grandchildren, Carson Ryder and Cylea Rae Williams, Michael W. Manuel, Nayomi Rose Settle, William F. Lemons; siblings, Jimmy Dickens (Sherry), Ronnie Dickens, Mike Dickens (Donna), Junior Dickens (Tammy), Teresa Cain (Danny), Betsy Johnson, Linda Dickens and Shirley Edwards; as well as a large and loving group of extended family and friends.
