David Allen Lillard

David Allen Lillard (86) passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 in the presence of family.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at Friendly Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Keatts officiating. The family will begin receiving friends at 1:00 PM prior to the service. Burial will follow at Dan River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Allen was born in Rockingham County to the late Willie Wharton Lillard and Madeline McKinney Lillard. During his time in Greensboro, NC, he worked at Richardson Corporation for 20 years and then at Starmount Company, retiring after 26 years. Allen loved serving with his church at Friendly Avenue. A skilled carpenter, he enjoyed building furniture in his workshop and doing construction projects. Family will cling to memories of his work ethic, love, and homemade peach ice cream.

He was a loving husband to his wife of 67 years, Florine Strader Lillard; father to Vickie Lillard Logan (John) and David Allen Lillard, Jr. (Brenda); and Poppy to grandchildren, Mistie Olson (Jerel), David “Lee” Lillard (Nikki), and Tiffany Miller (Gary), and great-grandchildren, Jered (Alyssa), Kaeden, Xane, Miles, and Remy. He is also survived by his sister Beverly Paschal Collins, as well as a large and loving group of extended family and friends. 

His family extends deep gratitude to his church family, friends and Elizabeth, and SS class, for their visits, prayers, and thoughtful cards. Special thanks is also given to the staff at Harmony, the hospice team at AuthoraCare, and his private CNAs for their loving attention to him.
