David Carlton Stewart, Sr.

David Carlton Stewart, Sr. 98, passed away on November 4, 2018 at Beacon Place in Greensboro. Graveside services will be held at 11:00AM Friday, November 9, 2018 at Mount Bethel Church Cemetery. Mr. Stewart was born in Rockingham County to the late Dr. Joseph T. Stewart and Elizabeth Sharp Stewart. He graduated from Bethany High School and attended Elon College before joining the United States Army in January, 1943. He retired from the Army in February, 1972 having served in Africa, England, Germany, Taiwan, France and Vietnam. From 1972 until 1983 he worked as a registered nurse for the V.A. hospital in Ashville. Mr. Stewart was also a member of the Masons Potomac Lodge #5 in Washington, D.C. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty five years, Mildred Stewart and five siblings. Survivors include his wife, Marie Lowery Armstrong Stewart; sons, David C. Stewart, Jr. and spouse, Terrell Allen; Donald R. Stewart and wife, Kandyce, Dale S. Stewart and Darrell J. Stewart and wife, Linda; grandchildren, Donnie Stewart, Talli Stewart, Natalie Stewart, Jessica Paschal and Collin Stewart; great grandchildren, Asher Ryu Stewart and Emma Rae Paschal. The family will see friends on Thursday evening from 6-8 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
