REIDSVILLE, NC- David Thomas Troxler, age 83, of Water Works Road, Reidsville died on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Rockingham County, on November 4, 1930, he was the son of the late Perry Thomas and Pauline Crowder Troxler.
A graduate of Reidsville High School, Mr. Troxler has kept in touch with his classmates over the years. He also furthered his education at; Gasoline and Diesel Engine Mechanics at Gaston Tech in Gastonia, Fire and Rescue at Rockingham Community College in Wentworth, and Truck Driving School at Johnston Community College in Smithfield.
Mr. Troxler has worn many hats during his life including: His favorite; Farmer, as well as, School Bus Driver, Rural Mail Carrier, Diesel Mechanic, Sprinkler Pipe Fitter, Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Purina Bulk Feed Station Owner/Manager, Truck Driver: Ray Mayflower Moving, Thomas Produce, Old Dominion Freight Lines, Overland Express, and New York Carolina Express. His last log book was filled out in 2012 for
his last trip in the big truck pulling twin trailers.
During the Korean War Mr.Troxler served in the Coast Guard aboard the sea going rescue tug, the USCG Cherokee out of Norfolk, VA on the east coast all the way to the Panama Canal. He spent 32 months in the engine room.
He served on the Board of Directors of the Rockingham County Farm Bureau. He was past Chairman of the Rockingham County Swine Committee and the Northern Piedmont Area Development Association, as well as, Committeeman for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. He was a volunteer fireman for the Wentworth Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Troxler is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Jewell Thiel and children: Russell Troxler (and special friend, Patty Bondurant) of Reidsville, Anna Troxler of High Point, NC, Emily (Ben) Hamilton of Reidsville; grandchildren : Twins, David James and Matthew Perry Troxler of Reidsville.
His sisters: Eloise Murray, Sarah Anne (James) Jones, and Inez Arthur, all of Reidsville.
He also cherished all of his nieces and nephews as well as extended family members and so many friends.
Mr. Troxler was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and PaulineTroxler, daughter, Lisa Troxler Chmielewski, and special nephew, David Lindsey Jones.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 24th at 11:00 AM in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with visitation on Friday, May 23rd from 6 – 9 PM. The service will be conducted by the Hospice Chaplain, Rev. Tripp Kimbrough. The family will be at the home on Water Works Road at other times.
