David Franklin Washburn, 72, of 751 Irvin Farm Road, went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, November 30, 2021.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, December 5, 2021, at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Kent officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memory Gardens with Military graveside rites. The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 4th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
David was born in Rockingham County to the late Mack and Eva Pate Washburn. After graduating from Reidsville High School, he served his country in the US Air Force for 4 years in the Philippines. After his return from military service, he went to work for the Reidsville Post Office, a job he kept for 38 years until retirement. He and his wife owned Washburn’s Fishing and Hunting Supply for 11 years. After retirement David went back to school at RCC and obtained a degree in woodworking. He did taxidermy, was an avid bow hunter, and a diehard Washington Redskins fan. He was a member at Lively Stones Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School. He loved basketball and played in High School and then on a military traveling team while in the Air Force.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald and Elwood Washburn; and sister, Edna Earl Loye and her son, Mickey.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Beatrice Stewart Washburn; children, Mj Saltz (Danny), Stephanie Vernon (Christopher), David Franklin Washburn, Jr. and Jennifer Washburn; grandchildren, Caleb Saltz, Chloe Vernon, Charlotte Saltz, Amelia Vernon, Sophia Kim and Levi Vernon; brother, Bobby Washburn (Linda); sister, Betty Daniels (Ronnie).
