A World War II veteran of 1945, he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Italy for two years.
He was married to the love of his life, Laura C. Laws on July 30, 1949 and they shared 64 years of happiness before her death in May 2013. Dillard is survived by his two children, Cynthia L. Cantrell, husband Walker and Matt Laws, wife Regina; two grandchildren, Matthew Cantrell, wife Victoria and Sarah Linville, husband Jeremy and three great-grandchildren, Nehemiah, Noami, Atlas and a soon-to-be great granddaughter.
