Dolores Yvonne Gibson McDowell

Reidsville – Dolores Yvonne Gibson McDowell, 74, of Reidsville, NC passed from this lifeon January 26, 2011. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel. The interment will follow in Evergreen Memory Gardens. She was born on April 21, 1936 in Roxboro, NC to the late Rosa Carter Gibson and Elton Garland Gibson. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her brother, Edwin Gibson. Surviving are her daughter, Miranda McDowell Hull of Pinehurst, NC; her son, Richard Lawrence McDowell of Winter Garden, FL; her son, Jayson Noel McDowell, of Reidsville, NC; six grandchildren, and her aunt, Bernice Gibson Frazier, of Brookneal, Virginia. Mrs. McDowell moved to Reidsville, NC with her family in 1953. Active as the Reidsville High School mascot and in youth activities at Main Street United Methodist Church of Reidsville, Mrs. McDowell attended East Carolina University. Raising her children in Greenville, SC and Atlanta, GA, she traveled extensively internationally and served as a director in many community outreach programs such as the March of Dimes, the Girl Scouts of America, and Methodist Youth Fellowship. She owned Professional Personnel Services in Greensboro, NC and continued to work after retirement as a wholesale furniture broker. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at Jayson and Stephanie’s home (231 Chickasaw Drive).
