Doris Anita Compton Smith

Reidsville – Doris “Anita” Compton Smith, 71, of 141 Strawberry Road, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2010 at Baptist Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 3:30 PM on Sunday, November 28, 2010 at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eddie Compton officiating. A private committal service will be held in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Smith was a native of Rockingham County and was born to the late John T. and Kattie Sue Bell Compton. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Covington Wesleyan Church. Anita worked for the American Tobacco Company. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Anita will be enormously be missed by her family who thought of her as one of the greatest people in the world. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by beloved husband, Irvin Jackson Smith, three brothers and one great-grandchild, Sophia Augilar Smith. She is survived by her children, Tommy Smith and wife Peggy, Mike Smith, Ronald Smith, Kay Mitchell and Lenard Mark Smith; 21 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Raymond, J.D., Wayne, Dorsey and Ray Compton; sister, Gail Chipman and special granddaughter, Ashley Augilar Smith. The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Saturday from 6:00 - 8:00 PM and other times at the home.
