Doris Elizabeth Newton Watlington

Reidsville: Doris Elizabeth Newton Watlington, 95, passed away on Sunday October 9, 2016, at Penn Nursing Center. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6-8 P.M., Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at Wilkerson Funeral Home. There will be a private family graveside service at Evergreen Memory Gardens. Doris was born on January 21, 1921, in Milton, NC, to the late Lelia Firesheets Matlock Newton and James Thomas Newton. She was a former member of Shiloh Baptist Church of Milton and long-time member of North Scales Street Church of Christ in Reidsville. Doris was employed by the American Tobacco Co. in Reidsville for many years and was a retired North Carolina State Employee, South End Elementary School location. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Holland Chrismon Watlington; her sister, Violet Newton Lewis; her half-brothers, Samuel Matlock, Chesley Matlock, Dailey Newton, James Newton, Daniel Newton, Berkley Newton, and half-sisters, Geneva N. Barker, Cleo Matlock, Alice M. Carter, Kathryn N. Hasson, Wilma N. Watlington and Ada Bell N. Shumate. She is survived by her daughters, Diane W. Tysinger of Greensboro and Myra Johnson (David) of Reidsville; grandson, Reed C. Tysinger of Greensboro; step granddaughter, Kathryn Johnson of Greensboro; great grandchildren, Sydney Caroline Tysinger and Zachary Reed Tysinger of Greensboro; step great granddaughter, Madeline Fluharty of Charlotte; sister, Eunice N. Smith of Hampton, VA, and her many nieces and nephews.
