Doris Jean Hooper

Doris Roberts Hooper, 92 years of age, passed away peacefully at her home on Gilliam Road, Reidsville, NC. Doris was born March 30, 1932, in McLeansville, NC to Tom & Aubrie Roberts. Her family includes brother, Billy Roberts and his daughters, Kimberly, Tammy and their children as well as Herbert’s family. 

The body will lie in state at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, and Wednesday, January 1, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at Lakeview Memorial Park in Greensboro, NC, on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at 11:00 AM, conducted  by Rev. James Dotson of Reidsville.

Doris graduated from Monticello High School in 1950 and earned her father’s pride and praise for winning the “Best Citizen Award”. She went on to earn a 2-year business degree that she utilized working for her father’s company, Roberts Harvester Co. and the farms she and Herbert successfully established and operated.

Doris married the late Herbert Edward Hooper in 1962. They had one son, Randall Edward, who preceded them in death. Doris and Herbert were the perfect team, always working in harmony toward a happy and successful 56- year marriage. Their lives were dedicated to each other and their family, community, churches, friends and business associates. They made a truly lasting and indelible mark on many lives through the extraordinary love and generosity they shared with so many. None more so than their beloved Goddaughter, Lea Waynick and her family, who lovingly cared for both Doris and Herbert through the end of their lives. They also opened their home and hearts to a young, Jacob Dickerson, whom they came to love like a son. 

Doris Hooper leaves a legacy of gentle kindness, respect, and generosity to all with whom she came in contact. She truly appreciated the many people who assisted her when she needed help including those with Hospice and all the dedicated caregivers who were faithful and kind to her at the end of her life.
