Doris Cox McAlister

Reidsville – Doris Cox McAlister, 88, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Morehead Nursing Center in Eden. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 12, 2014, at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church with Rev. Glenda Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Dan River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-3 PM on Sunday prior to the service at the church and other times at 2633 Worsham Mill Rd., Ruffin. Doris was born on March 30, 1926, in Rockingham County to the late Willie Adolphus Cox and Beulah Cobb Cox. She was a graduate of Ruffin High School. She was married to the late Robert McAlister for 62 years. She was a long time faithful member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. Along with her husband and parents, Doris was preceded in death by her sisters, Mabel Hurd and Helen Richmond and her brother, Preston Cox. Survivors include her sons, Dennis McAlister and wife Diane of Ruffin and Sidney McAlister and wife Debra of Cary; grandchildren, Beverly McAlister Duggins and husband Jason, Michael McAlister and Jenna McAlister; great grandson, Lane Duggins; sisters, Lucille Stone and Edna Cardwell; sisters-in-law, Audrey Cox and Billie Anne McAlister; brother-in-law, Lonnie Richmond; numerous nieces and nephews and special friend and caregiver, Priscilla Keen.
