Dorothy "Dot" Dove Rakestraw

Dorothy “Dot” Grey Dove Rakestraw, 95, of Reidsville, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, December 30, 2023.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at Smyrna Presbyterian Church with Pastor Tom Wray officiating. Burial will follow at Smyrna Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the home. 

Dot was born in Caswell County to the late Jim Dove and Nannie Chapmon Dove. She retired from Sears after working there for over three decades. She was a long-time member of Smyrna Presbyterian Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She also participated in the Rockingham County Home Extension Club. Dot found great joy in painting and was skilled at carving, particularly Santas. You could often find her enjoying breakfast at Reid’s House in the morning.

In addition to her parents, Dot was preceded in death by her husband W.D. Rakestraw; son Dan Rakestraw; sisters Margie Dove Puckett and Eva Dove Cox and brother Bobby Dove Sr. 

Dot is survived by her sister MariBeth Dagenhart Woolard and husband Sam; brother Dwight Dove and wife Pam; daughter-in-law Lisa Rakestraw and numerous nieces and nephews.
